530 chain and sprockets for 1979 Z

Post by scottish CBX »

Hello all,

I have a USA 1979 Z which has the standard 630 chain and sprockts set up but I wish to change this to the 530 chain with new 17 front sprocket and 43 rear sprockets (or 18/43) and should I go JT or DID?

The bike has the standard swing arm and is otherwise stock but I am hoping one of the many members out there can let me know what length the new 530 chain should be - 102 or 104 links? I would prefer to buy the correct length of chain and not a longer one which may need shortened so I'm guessing that this conversion has been done many many times before hence the request for your feedback please. Many thanks in advance.

You should stick with the standard 18/42 sprocket size for the CBX with 530 chain. With that combo, the 530 chain length is 102 pins. Don't know with 17/43.

To complete the conversion, you should try to find the front sprocket cushioning rings and the '80 (and other Hondas of the era) chain adjusters.
