Hello all,
I've gotten set up to start the reassembly of my 1981 basket case, beginning with the engine. the #2 from the right cylinder has a curious slightly rough bore surface extending down 1/2" or more from the top. oh-oh. also the carbon ridges are pretty well defined at 1/8-1/4". What should I do?I was trying to avoid pulling the cylinders - oh well.
I don't have a bore mic, but at 24,000 miles this looks like a very poor piston/ring situation. Also in the old paperwork I found an old compression test averaging 110-125 psi. what is the most cost effective thing to do? I am contemplating reassembling the whole thing and just running it if possible, even if it fogs out the neighborhood, just to get the bike together again & letting things work. This might also be disastrous.
Also the motor is out, and that, I understand, is the time to do it up. Money is a slight problem at the moment. I'm going to clean the head and remove the valves & see how they look.
thank you esp Tom and Mark,
brian
