Another request for experienced guidance:
I've just replaced the oldham camshaft couplers on my '82 CBX with a pair of the aftermarket "oversized" couplers to eliminate the ticking. After following 1/2 the camshaft removal procedure in the Honda manual, here's what I have:
1. Starts and idles perfectly.
2. revs smoothly
3. power is good
4. once you get on and ride, as you come to a stop with the clutch in, the cylinder head sounds like a diesel engine, with that clattery-tapping-knocking type sound.
5. After the revs sit at idle for a moment (about the length of a stoplight)the noise fades, and the top end is silk smooth again.
I've opened the valve cover back up, verified I torqued all the bolts and that the oil pipe is free and clear. No scoring anywhere.
Cam chains are tensioned, valve clearance is spec, plenty of oil, I'm mystified, but tomorrow the stock couplers go back in.
Any ideas as to what I may have done wrong? Is is possible to swap the left hand camshaft halves exhaust vs intake accidentally?
I should also probably mention that the top end really didn't sound bad before I started mucking about with the couplers, just the standard coupler ticking. If something ain't broke, break it.
