Engine problem after collision.

Does anyone have any idea why an engine is difficult to turn over ( with a wrench at the end of the crankshaft ) after a collision. The forks are badly bent and the engine has the usual side damage but nothing major. It is not hydraulic locked and the cams seem to be OK. I would like to hear if anyone has had this problem before I remove and dismantle the engine.

Make sure the transmission didn't get jammed in a higher gear during the accident. Fish around until you're sure it's in neutral.

Checked the transmission and it's working fine. I thought it might be something to do with the timing chains so I backed the adjustment off, also removed the alternator and clutch but that made no difference. I guess its engine out time. Thanks Dave.

When you say difficult to turn over, do you mean it won't turn over, it stops completely part way through a revolution?

I can turn the engine over continually with a wrench but it takes much more effort than normal.

So I finally got around to dismantling the engine. After a sequence of removing a part at a time, turning the crankshaft and checking for the tightness problem the only thing I found was that one camshaft was binding slightly but not enough to cause the problem. So all that remains is to check things on reassembly. I thought that as I had the engine apart I might as well replace the valve seals, check the rings etc. Rings are within specs. Had to have 008' removed from the head surface as it was low at the center cylinders. Also found an intake valve that was not seating properly (bent) and was not the correct valve anyway as it is dished and not flat on the face). The rest of the bike is back together with all the replacement parts thanks to Louis. Just have to paint the tail and replacement fender ( that should be interesting).

So I got the engine and bike back together and it runs good. It's still a mystery as to why it was difficult to turn over. Thanks Genesound for the valve seals. I'm still surprised that Honda charged $48 CAD for an intake valve which was not identical to the original.

The inlet valve that is currently offered by almost everyone is the part that fits most DOHC CB750Fs and is available from non-Honda sources for less than $30.-
On ebay even under $20.- if you take your time to shop around. Shipping from Germany to me in Ohio is $10.-

Yes, but considering that it took exactly four weeks for valve seals to come from California plus exchange rate plus shipping I prefer to collect at the Honda dealer the following day.
