Interestingly, I learned from another site that vacuum leaks can also be found by an unlit propane torch, instead of Ether (starting fluid) with the same effect.....

I know that the starting fluid method works. My low mile '80 had perfect looking carb collars but I noticed that the clamps had been screwed down very tight. I sprayed ether and found at least 2 collars that were leaking. During the bike's next service, I replaced them all. Turns out they felt soft on the carb side but they were hard as a rock on the head side.

That is the method I use. It doesn`t make any mess or cause a fire hazard.

In September I received 2 each Certificates of Achievement from California's finest. In a month I can explain what I did to make them go away (hopefully).

A month? Top secret, eh? In the meantime a little story that reminds me of.
Many years ago I was seeing a gal who worked in Division 7 of one of LA county's municipal courts. I borrowed her Datusn 240Z one day (I told you this was long ago) and because I got a little spirited with it, I was pulled over by one of LA's finest. Preliminary to writing me a speeding ticket, he asked me who's car this was. I think he might have been a bit nervous about it possibly being a judge's car or something, because the license plate read "DIV VII." I actually don't remember now so many years later whether he did write me or not, but I sure remember the note in his voice when he asked me that question. It really does matter who you know... :)

Thats why I need to keep looking for the po-lice. I don't know anybody that can help me.
