alternator

Post by J.W. Price 5638 »

I just found out that my stator windings are burned out. I had a charge of about 10, no better, thought my brushes were bad, but it was worse than that. I am now trying to decide which route to go . I am interested in doing the alt conversion. I don't like the idea of having to wait for a charge for 10 to 15 minutes every time I go for a ride. Have any of you used the new alt from cbxman? I know that it is expensive. This is a shortcoming along with the clutch which I also will correct in the near future.I also have a concern with how the new alt looks when installed, does anyone have a really good picture of it installed? I appreciate any help anyone could give me. Thanks, J.W.

Several guys have made the change. On cbxworld.com are some pictures that one of them posted after he changed the alternator.

Alternator conversion

I purchased and installed one of the CBXMan alternators on my 82 CBX last Fall. We took a couple day trip around northern Michigan and the upper peninsula. Also another day trip around the "thumb" area. I am very pleased with the performance of the unit. It was very easy to install. Everyone that has seen it on the bike thinks it looks pretty neat. I kept the original alternator for a future rebuild or in case I ever part with the bike and a new owner wants the original.
