Exact model 1980 sold in Canada (for wiring diagram)

Hi,
Does anyone know what exact model was sold in Canada in 1980 ? I need to work on the electrical and have multiple versions of wiring diagrams in the official Honda mechanics book. (E-F-G, SC, etc). I need to figure this out since I swapped a 79 engine in it and the electrical is not 100% similar.

Thanks,
Francis

Then someone hacked up the wiring on your '79 engine (can only be the pulsar wires, alternator wires and the neutral/oil pressure switches). From the factory, they were all the same for '79-'80.

Hacked up is a feeeble word...

The number of wires coming out of the regulator was different, same for the starter relay. I'll go with the Shop Manual "addenda for 1980". Hopefully, Juicy Lucy will be ressuciated soon after 3 years of tears and sweat!

I would spend $100 on a new wiring harness and then it is just plug and play.

Agree on the new harness, but if you must repair, again, there is NO difference between the '79 and '80 wiring. Unless you have non-stock components, then no wiring diagram will be correct.

I do know for sure the harness side 6 pin Sumitomo lock type male connector (female plastic housing, male terminals inside) for the pulsers (connects to wire that comes up from the front of the clutch cover) the on the 78-79 Z is 0.250" wide terminals.

And on Pro links those terminals are 0.125" wide and in a different housing.

But not sure which type the 1980's have, I hope for your sake it is the 0.250" wide ones. If your harness and engine don't match, PM me and I can help you out with the wiring of them.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Cheers...Tony

Bob, this is good advice. I had a lot of grief as a result of damaged wiring harnesses. It's the best $100 you will spend on the project.

I will definitely invest in a new harness if she doesn't behave but for now I should stick with what I have. Already invested way more than expected...

Now I can't figure out where the ground cable connects to (from the battery). I think I included both cables in the CBX I sold this Spring and the pics I took don't show it (of course lol) . Does it connect to the frame (battery support maybe?) or somewhere directly on the engine case?

Thanks for the reply guys, I might upload new pics of Juicy Lucy today.

On 78/79 Z's, it connects to the LH bolt that holds the starter motor in on the LH side of the gearbox, just above the countershaft sprocket.

I would be surprised if the '80s are any different.

The OEM bolts are a 6 mm thread, but have an 8 mm hex head with a shoulder and are usually a dark colour.

Thanks, I got it. I was able to plug the battery and start it after 3 years! Next steps, fuel and exhausts
