kerer 6-2 on 79 cbx
I got a set of Kerker 6-2 but I did not get any additional brackets. I am not sure how the install will work on 79 with sports kit. can someone please share some picture where the pipe gets attached at rear ?
Thanks

There is no difference in exhaust attachment between US Standard and Sport Kit brackets. Don't know if the 6-2 came with different hanger brackets, if they did not, the stock brackets should bolt right up.

Re: kerer 6-2 on 79 cbx
I have several sets of Kerker brackets and even a centerstand stopper that mounts on centerstand pinch bolt. Let me know if you want them and I'll try to find them. They were all hanging in my garage until I cleaned it out a month ago.

I have have attached some photos of my system and hope it will help with your installation.
If yours is different then take up Dave's offer of brackets that will get your system installed.

Yeah - your brackets are definitely not the same as mine.
Could the mufflers be for another bike? Kerker made systems for heaps of other bikes.
Mine also has the side and main stand stops on the muffler.

Re: kerer 6-2 on 79 cbx
Kerker made several variations of mufflers/mounts for the CBX. The Pro-Link ones are slightly less upswept, but fit on any year. Later versions had the tab to directly mount to the footpeg bracket as you see above. Most of them though, required metal brackets to extend from the muffler tab to the footpeg bracket. I'll dig a set out.

Re: kerer 6-2 on 79 cbx
Dave, IIRC the brackets for the Kerkers which used them were just a couple pieces of flat iron bent to the appropriate angles, nothing very complicated.
I bought a set yrs ago without the brackets, used some plate aluminum I had laying around to fabricate the center strand stop and some flat mild steel to make the muffler brackets.
The point being if you can't find the brackets for AshishNJ, It's a simple straightforward fabrication, just another reason to spend some quality time with your CBX.

Hi Jeff. That is exactly the plan B. I studied the belly of the beast up close and made some preliminary plans if option A is not going to happen.
While I am at it, I am thinking of checking the packing of the muffler and replace it if needed. I have no history on their use. They visibly look to be in good shape with no dents , have some surface rust that I am going to tackle over the weekend. My question is regarding removal of baffle. There is a flat head both at the end of the megaphone that I unscrewed. Should I tap on the black pipe that is extending from narrower side to push everything out or is there some other process ?
also, this is the packing I am thinking of using

Can't hurt replacing the packing, get it over with now instead of later. When you repack the mufflers use some speed/safety wire to secure the packing to the baffle, a couple wraps front, middle and back, don't bind the wire too hard.AshishNJ wrote:Hi Jeff. I always removed the baffles from the rear, I have a tool I use to stretch springs with, basically a steel rod with a hook at the one end and a wood handle on the other, stick it in the baffle, hook one of the perforations in the baffle and pull, do that a couple times at a few different points and it will slide right out.

Re: kerer 6-2 on 79 cbx
My end cap was stuck really tight. Used a block of wood on the end of the internal pipe and after a few decent hammer taps it came free.
