Hi!

Been a member for a while and thought I would share some pics of my -82 that I bought last summer.

Living in Finland it feels like these bikes are pretty rare and I have been looking for one for a couple years, but always knew I could not afford to fork out 10 000€-20 000€ on one in pristine condition. So when I found this one for sale on Finnish marketplace it had been listed for 3 months already, but no buyers. I think because of the bad photos of it standing in the back of an semi trailer partly disassembled.

I drove 2000 km round trip to get it, smiling all the way home.

The bike had been sitting in that trailer for almost 10 years after the previous owners divorce, hidden in his buddys backyard. So I knew most likely everything had to come appart.

Did all the pre-checks for a long standing bike and then tried to start it, but it only ran on 3 cylinders (later found out PO had "rebuilt" the carbs and installed the slow jet rubber plugs that should not be used on -82 carbs)

The bike has now been disassembled and frame is painted, gonna tear into the engine next week to replace necessary parts . The bike came without saddle bags and the passenger grab bar was missing, but I have since found those parts from different vendors.

Kind Regards, Robin

Do you have any idea how many miles it has? Asking since you said you’d be tearing into the motor. My first 82 had 106,000 miles on it when I sold it years ago. I lucked out recently and found a cream puff 82 with under 35,000 miles. No motor work needed. Good luck with your build.

I believe it has around 150 000 km (93 000 miles), the engine got OK compression. But I suspect that the camchain tensioners needs replacing and 2 spark plug holes need work. Also I believe it has an -79/-80 valve cover and the cylinder heads should be black if Im correct? Nice find on your bike!

Very nice, different color on engine than mine. The first owner, (Im 3rd) said over the phone that he remembered dropping the bike once and that the cooling fins were repaired, maybe he remembered wrong and the top was completely changed?
