My '79 bike doesn't have them, but the Partzilla parts diagram shows two fuel tank clips #15 and moles/moldings #14. What's the purpose of these?

thanks

This has been a topic of discussion forever. We don't really know what Honda was thinking when they put them on. Logic says to prevent the fuel tank from hitting the frame when removing it, but that's not really the issue. They were there from the factory on all four years - few bikes retain them today. They are available if you look hard enough, just beware, the metal clips will leave a mark if you decide you don't like them or want to move them.

IMO, they are totally useless and un-necessary. No other Honda that I know of has them. (Maybe CB650).

When left off during a repaint, it just allows the tank to be cleaned/waxed easier.

Thanks,

They seem like a great way to scratch your paint.

And when they delaminate, those spring steel clips are sharp as hell!
