1980 Fork Leg

I have a couple of lower fork legs and don't know from which year they are.

I know they are for 35mm tubes but they seem to measure 57mm on the upper end where the fork stabilizer would clamp. My 79 forks only measure 56mm there. I faintly remember that Honda changed something when they put air into the 1980 forks. Could someone with a stock 1980 fork please confirm this for me? What do they measure on the outside at the large diameter where the fork seals sit, where the leg has the grooves

My '80 is 56mm up by the fork seal.

Mike:
I think you'll find the upper leg (just below the seal) machined for a bushing, that the '79 didn't have. At least that's what the parts book shows and what I remember from rebuilding them.

I found this in my own records:
The front fork was air assist and the steering neck incorporated tapered roller bearings which were 2mm further apart. Each fork leg had two anti-stiction rings instead of one. The fork sliders were 1mm larger, 45 up from previously 44mm. Stanchions remained at 35mm.
