'A' (1980) carbs underside

Post by Kool_Biker »

Hiya
Does anybody have a pic of the underside of an 'A' (1980) carburettor rack, so I can see the positioning and routing of the 2 overflow joints and adjoining overflow tubes.
As you might imagine, I am converting the single overflow system in my Z carburettor rack, to the twin type found in A racks.
Thanks in advance :D

Well, anybody offering a pic?
I know we all like to show off our carbs from the best possible angles and there are lots of good ones around. But I would appreciate a pic from below, as described in my opening thread above ...
Here's what MY Z stack looked like, from below, before I started restoring some years ago.

Aris:
I would be happy to post a picture, but am away from home for the weekend. Do you have all of the stock '80 plumbing for the bowl drains?

Here you go, Aris. Hope this helps. These are VB62. Original 1980 U.S. carbs
It's not that we didn't want to post the pictures, but remember, there are a couple of hours time difference between Greece and the U.S.

Mike:
Those may be VB62 carbs, but that is '79 plumbing on them. Aris is looking for what you probably have on your '81.

Mike, guys, pls ... my sense of humour
This is the best, almost real time resource, I have ever experienced.
I am for ever indebted to your collective wisdom and your response times.
So this is sorted!

Now for the bad news. As usual I have misled you  .
What I am looking for, is the underside of a rack which uses the TWO OVERFLOW JOINTS, not one as my 79, and, judging from your pics Mike, not one from the 80 either.
Maybe, the two overflow joints solution was adopted by Honda at a later time.
It is clearly referred to as an 'A' model in my European parts list, see attached.

.
Clearly I am looking for the topology around items '20' (two of them).
Thanks, Aris

Sorry, Aris, I have 7 banks of carbs sitting here and the only VB64 (81/82) set among them is missing the overflow tubes

Thanks, this helps a lot.
I get the idea, although I believe the overflow joints in the pic are pointing in the opposite direction from where they should.
Cheers

You are right, Aris. I tried to take a picture of the carbs on my '81 and it shows the drain tube pointing towards the airbox.

Yes Aris they should be facing the oppisite direction, this set of carbs has been sitting on the shelf for 5 years and the inlet just got shelved that way, if you look at the schematic in the above post you can see that the carbs I posted actually match, they just got rotated while off the bike and on the shelf.

Indeed, and as you can see below, I am now done.
What remains is the joyous task of putting everything back, crossing fingers and pushing the start button.
