Big Crank and DieHard Batteries for CBX - Specs
Old news probably but I thought I'd make an easy search result.
Sears will not turn up a fitment for the CBX, however Dave or Mike formerly pointed out that the battery for a 1500 GoldWing is a perfect fit without the use of spacers.
I formerly had a Sears DieHard Gold AGM battery 18L-BS, but I have apparently cooked it by overcharging it, and now it leaks at the drop of a hat. It's 6 years old so I am not whining too much. Sears no longer makes this battery, nor could I find a battery of the same physical size on their website so I punted and ended up at BatteryMart.
The old Sears DieHard battery that I have fits perfectly, and it measures a hair over 8 inches long, about 3 1/2 inches wide, and it is about 6 3/8" tall. The positive terminal is on the right side when the terminals are on the side facing you.
The replacement battery that I found on the BatteryMart site is this:
http://www.batterymart.com/p-Big-Crank- ... ttery.html
That's a Big Crank EXT18L
Their specs:
BM Part #: ETX-18L
Voltage: 12 Volt
Capacity: 20 Ah
Cold Cranking Amps: 340 CCA
Type: AGM
Warranty: 1 Year
Shipping Weight: 18.00 Pounds
Length: 8 1/8"
Width: 3 9/16"
Height: 6 3/8"
If you use the search tool on this site and specify the CBX it will turn up the EXT-20L which is somewhat smaller and has 30 fewer cold cranking amps. It's also 2 lbs lighter:

BM Part #: ETX-20L
Voltage: 12 Volt
Capacity: 17.5 Ah
Cold Cranking Amps: 310 CCA
Type: AGM
Warranty: 1 Year
Shipping Weight: 16.00 Pounds
Length: 6 7/8"
Width: 3 7/16"
Height: 6 1/8"
Hope that's helpful to someone down the road.

Cool Info, Nils! The GL battery that fits the CBX is for a GL1200. 1984-1987
My favorite is Westco http://www.westcobattery.com
Although they had quite a price hike for some reason. I bought these in the past for around $85.-
WCP18, AGM, 12V 20AH, 340 CCA,

Thanks Mike. Perhaps the 1200 and 1500 are the same then!

Yes, for many of the AGM batteries, you have to fashion some sort of spacer to have a good fit in the battery box. None seem to be EXACTLY the same size we need, but many will work. I've used the Big Crank, and the various Westco versions over the years and have gotten 6-plus years of service.

That was one of the reason, I liked the Westco. No spacer needed.
The original battery from the factory in the CBX even required a spacer.

I have had a NaPA equivalent AGM in my 81 CBX since 2006 and it was still working but I suspect it is time to replace. At the time of purchase I was a NAPA employee so the price was about half of retail. Don't know if I would buy one at retail since I can get a Yuasa for a lot less. Try Amazon.com

FYI --- Alternative battery source: Chrome Battery. Search for gold wing batteries. They don't list the CBX. $70 for AGM including shipping. I have one in my Suzuki. So far, excellent (a little over a year). Top off the charge about once every 6 weeks -- takes about 10 minutes.

I can also recommend a Yuasa YTX20-BS AGM battery. It is rated at 18AH and 270 CCA's, but I got almost 9 years of service out of the one that was in my '79 CBX when I bought it. I replaced it this morning with a Big Crank ETX18L, which I know to be an excellent battery, but it weighs 6.8 pounds more than the Yuasa.
